Books Read by the DM team.
Was browing SQLServerDataMining.com when I came across this list of books that are read by the DM team.
Some of the content are pretty heavy, but necessary if you intend to gain in-depth knowledge of the data mining algorithms.
For example, "Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition" by Christopher M. Bishop is a good read and is one of the best books on gaining a good understanding on Neural networks (one of the algorithms in SQL Server 2005). However, be prepared for a really deep dive.
Data Mining: Concepts and Techniques by Jiawei Han, Micheline Kamber provides a good overview of the various state-of-art data mining algorithms in the research community. If you want a broad overview, this is a good book to start. However, note that there are very few discussions on the commercial data mining tools.
Check them out if you are interested to know in-depth details!
